He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
