۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
