A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
