The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
