And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "You and your forefathers preceding you." 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 "And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me." 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
