The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
