Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? 35 Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa? 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 nor can man achieve anything without hard labor. 39 And that his endeavour shall be presently observed. 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 and that He it is Who causes people to laugh and to cry, 43 It is He who causes death and gives life. 44 That He did create in pairs,- male and female, 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 and that [therefore] it is within His power to bring about a second life; 47 and that it is He who gives riches and causes to hoard, 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 and Thamood, sparing no one, 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 just as He thrust into perdition those cities that were overthrown 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This is a warner from the warners of ancient times. 56 The Imminent is imminent; 57 There is no one to unveil it apart from God. 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And laugh and not weep? 60 while you are thoughtless? 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62
