In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
