The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
