The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 And when the souls are paired 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 truly this is the word of a noble Messenger 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
