The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
