The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 Pollution shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
