The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
