He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
