The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the mount. 1 and the Book inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
