Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
