The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
