The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
