The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
