The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Save worshippers. 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
