He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
