Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
