The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
