AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said, “These are my guests – do not dishonour me.” 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
