The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
