He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
