Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
