Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
