Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
