And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." 85 If it were Our Will, We could take away that which We have sent thee by inspiration: then wouldst thou find none to plead thy affair in that matter as against Us,- 86 except by the mercy of your Lord. He has certainly bestowed great favors on you. 87 Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others. 88 We have given examples of every kind to men in this Qur'an in various ways, and even then most men disdain everything but unbelief, 89 And they say: we shall by no means believe in thee until thou causest for us to gush forth from the earth a fountain. 90 or you (show) us that you have your own garden of palm trees and vines with flowing streams therein, 91 or, until you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces, as you have claimed, or, as a surety bring Allah with the angels in front; 92 or till thou possessest a house of gold ornament, or till thou goest up into heaven; and we will not believe thy going up till thou bringest down on us a book that we may read. Say: 'Glory be to my Lord. Am I aught but a mortal, a Messenger?' 93
