He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
