The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
