The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
