The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
