The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
