He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
