And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 "And remember when He made you successors after 'Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth." 74 Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers." 75 Those who were stiff-necked said: verily we are disbelievers in that which ye believe. 76 So they slew the she-camel and revolted against their Lord's commandment, and they said: O Salih! bring us what you threatened us with, if you are one of the apostles. 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling-place. 78 Saleh therefore turned away from them and said, “O my people! Indeed I did deliver my Lord’s message to you and wished you good, but you do not want well-wishers.” (The people in the graves can hear the speech of those who are on earth.) 79 We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? 80 See, you approach men lustfully instead of women; no, you are a people that do exceed.' 81 And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!" 82 So We saved him and his family -- except for his wife. She was one of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals. 84
