Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 by the clouds which are heavily loaded with water, 2 And those that glide with ease (upon the sea) 3 and those that apportion [the gift of life] at [God's] behest! 4 Lo! that wherewith ye are threatened is indeed true, 5 and surely the Doom is about to fall! 6 I swear by the heaven full of ways. 7 surely, you are in different sayings, 8 Turned aside therefrom is who is turned aside. 9 Slain be those who mould from their imaginations. 10 Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless. 11 They ask: when is the Day of Requital coming? 12 (It is) the day on which they shall be tried at the fire. 13 and will be told, "Suffer the torment which you wanted to experience immediately". 14 The righteous shall live among gardens and fountains, 15 Receiving what is given them by their Lord. They were surely the virtuous before this. 16 Little of the night they were wont to slumber. 17 and in the mornings they would ask for forgiveness; 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 And in the earth there are signs for those who are sure, 20 just as [there are signs thereof] within your own selves: can you not, then, see? 21 And in heaven is your provision, and that you are promised. 22 By the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is certainly the truth. It is as true as your ability to speak. 23
