a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
