The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is covered, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 that hide, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 and the morning when it extends, 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 Where then will you go? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
