Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
