a large group of the earlier people 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
