But none believed in Musa except the offspring of his people, on account of the fear of Firon and their chiefs, lest he should persecute them; and most surely Firon was lofty in the land; and most surely he was of the extravagant. 83 Moses said, 'O my people, if you believe in God, in Him put your trust, if you have surrendered.' 84 They replied: 'We place our reliance on Allah. Our Lord! Do not make us a trial for the oppressors, 85 Lord, save us, through Your mercy, from the disbelieving people." 86 We revealed to Moses and his brother: 'Take certain houses for your people in Egypt. Make your houses a direction (for pray); establish the prayer; and give glad tidings to the believers' 87 And Musa (Moses) said: "Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord! That they may lead men astray from Your Path. Our Lord! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment." 88 He said: The prayer of you both has indeed been accepted, therefore continue in the right way and do not follow the path of those who do not know. 89 ۞ And We made the children of Israel to pass through the sea, then Firon and his hosts followed them for oppression and tyranny; until when drowning overtook him, he said: I believe that there is no god but He in Whom the children of Israel believe and I am of those who submit. 90 (God replied), "Now you declare belief in Me! but before this you were a disobedient rebel. 91 [Nay,] but today We shall save only thy body, so that thou mayest be a [warning] sign unto those who will come after thee: for, behold, a good many people are heedless of Our messages!" 92
