The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
