The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a fitting requital, 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
