The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the Visited House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
