Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
