And assuredly We have created human being from ringing clay of loam moulded. 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 God said, "This is the path which leads straight to Me. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
