The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
