The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
